Gzim Hasani, CEO and partner of smzh, and Roman Schuler, Chairman of the Board of Directors and partner of smzh, can look back on over 37 years of combined experience in the financial sector. Having met at Credit Suisse, the two entrepreneurs quickly realized that they share the same mindset and want to provide equal financial advice to all individuals.

Speech and answer

You were both successful in the banking world, why did you still decide to become self-employed?

Gzim Hasani: «The banking world was our learning field, so to speak, comparable to a master teacher. We are very grateful for all the experiences we have had in this industry, which is so important for Switzerland. At the same time, we have always incorporated changes in society into our work. Our 'teacher' has not always addressed these developments in our interests, especially in the interplay with customer needs. This certainly motivated us at times to seek self-employment and to realize our ideas on observations in an entrepreneurial way.»

Roman Schuler: «With smzh ag, we want to address this vacuum between customer need and our forward-looking services combined with an experiential culture in a more proactive way and closer to the action.»

And what is the biggest difference between bank consultancies and their advice?

Roman Schuler: «Take our board member Pascal Jenny. He has always worked very hard in his professional duties and is enthusiastic about his work for the Arosa vacation region. He has never been contacted by his banking partners for a comprehensive analysis in all these years. He was not interested in this either. We have now led him in several conversations in an understandable and unobtrusive way to the point that he has entrusted us with his issues. This requires conversations and many explanations, the creation of understanding and trust. This is the work that smzh ag focuses on. To do this, you have to like people, approach them and, above all, be able to listen. And sometimes offer more than just financial advice - it's very important to us that we can also offer our customers regular experiences.»

You talk about also offering your customers a unique experience component. Not exactly the first thing you think of when you hear the term financial advice. What's the idea behind it?

Gzim Hasani: «Without experience, without enthusiasm and emotion, the salt in the soup is simply missing in all areas. That's why our work with our customers always involves a lot of laughter. With this inner enthusiasm and positive vibes, even complex financial issues can be solved more efficiently. Often we even arouse new interest in the matter with our clients. That's because we don't give those 'dry and sober' advice sessions that are so often cited, but we can offer the necessary quality and seriousness at the highest level even in a relaxed conversational environment.»

In three sentences: What does smzh ag stand for?

Roman Schuler: «We stand for up-to-date expertise and quality. At the same time, we are interested partners of our customers. In a certain sense 'buddies' who also question, stimulate new thoughts and comment on them sustainably, also from the perspective of financial topics. Last but not least, SMZH also stands for comprehensive solutions and long-term support in all desired areas of life.»

You talk about comprehensive solutions - explain that to our readers.

Gzim Hasani: «Comprehensive means needs-oriented. We focus our recommendations on the things that are important to our customers. At the same time, it is our duty to think beyond the here and now in our discussions, to make the relevant points visible to our partners as well.»

Roman Schuler: «We also live in the present, enjoy the moments. But we all always have to think about what can be in the future, perhaps also where I would like to be one day. That's where the smzh is also a friend and mirror for future plans.»

Would you say that this is also what makes your services special? Or why should people choose smzh ag?

Gzim Hasani: «We see opportunities and chances every day. For us as a company, but also for our customers. It's probably this proactivity and broad knowledge base at all levels - from the board of directors to team support - that make us stand out.»

Originally, you designed your services for private individuals. Today, however, you also offer your services to SMEs. Why did you decide to take this step?

Roman Schuler: «SMEs are the backbone of the Swiss economy. An entrepreneur is interested in the team members beyond the boundaries of the company. Financial topics are also part of that. That's where we are the perfect partner. In addition, many SMEs are in a transformation phase. Not only in terms of digitalization and sustainability, but also in terms of new opportunities in the area of financial services.»
