THE 1. PILLAR

The 1st pillar, also known as the state pillar, in Switzerland is mandatory and forms the foundation of the 3-pillar system. It consists the Old Age and Survivors' Insurance (AHV) and the Disability Insurance (IV). In addition, it is possible to receive supplementary benefits (EL) or income compensation (EO) for military service or maternity.

What is the goal?

The goal is to ensure the existence of all Swiss residents through these contributions, both in old age and in the event of disability or for survivors in the event of death.

Who is insured?

- The following individuals are insured under the 1st pillar:

- Every person with residence in Switzerland

- All individuals employed in Switzerland

- Swiss citizens working abroad for institutions designated by the Federal Council or for the Confederation
